In the race of smartphones, Honor X8 is one of the main favorites. For this money, the device offers a design no worse than that of the flagships, a smart filling, a pretty good camera, a high-quality display with a large diagonal and a huge amount of internal memory. What is there, even the developers have not forgotten about NFC. Firstly, it is in this category that a completely prohibitive number of different models are presented on the market. Secondly, gadgets with the same price in terms of capabilities can differ very, very much. Finally, every additional 2-3 thousand rubles allows you to take a much more interesting device.

And it is precisely beyond this mark that manufacturers usually begin to cut corners, and first of all, all design delights go under the knife. Surprisingly, the hero of today’s review has successfully passed this sad fate. The smartphone looks very attractive, not inferior in appearance to the 2-3 times more expensive Huawei P20 and P20 Pro.

Actually, the design concept here is exactly the same. The base of the gadget is metal, behind it is glass with a beautifully shimmering texture under it, in front there is a rather compact “monobrow”. There are no physical buttons on the front panel, the display occupies a maximum of its area. Almost 85%, by the way, which is quite good for this price range.

Such is the corporate identity of Huawei and its sub-brand Honor. You can relate to it in different ways: I know people who are not enthusiastic about all this, but I personally like it: positive, bright, but not too pretentious. There are three color schemes – red, blue, and black for lovers of strict classics. The second option, for my personal taste, is the best.

I didn’t have to get used to the ergonomics of the Honor 8X after my personal Samsung Galaxy S8 + at all – the dimensions of the cases are almost the same. But objectively, a gadget with a screen diagonal of 6.5 inches is, of course that shovel. If before that you had any 5.5- or 5.2-inch smartphone, then new impressions are guaranteed.

However, you should not be afraid of them – you will get used to it quickly. Moreover, the matte frame does not slip in the hand, the rear panel glass also does not slide out of the palm, and the developers conveniently placed the volume and power buttons on the right side, exactly in the place where the thumb rests. If you hold the device with your left hand, then the index and middle fingers fall on these buttons. In theory, lefties can also be comfortable, but in this regard, I’m not an expert.

The glass on the back, of course, is very quickly covered with fingerprints, although on the Honor 8X in red, this is not particularly striking. By the way, the glass is quite easy to scratch, so it is better to handle the gadget with care. The fingerprint scanner works quickly and accurately – for the entire time of testing there were no questions to it.

Only the solution with two very noticeably protruding camera lenses looks doubtful. They always cling to the pocket of jeans, then scrape on the table when you put a smartphone on it without a case. Well, they collect all sorts of dust particles and other small debris.

Screen, software and sound:

As mentioned a little earlier, the Honor 8X display diagonal is 6.5 inches. It is built on the basis of a widescreen IPS-matrix with a resolution of 2340 × 1080 pixels. An additional 420 pixels in height are accounted for by the on-screen buttons and the notch bezel at the top of the screen.

Honor 8X is definitely one of the most successful smartphones from Huawei this year. An indicative fact: there is not a single flaw that could be called fatal. Scratched glass? Protruding cameras? You can get used to or hide the phone in a case. Old microUSB? Previously lived with these ports – and nothing.

At the same time, the list of advantages is such that, choosing a smartphone in 2019 at a price of up to 20,000 rubles, you won’t be able to pass by the Honor 8X with all your desire. Here you have an interesting design, and a huge amount of memory, and a large screen with a normal resolution, and decent hardware, and even NFC. Definitely a good purchase, worthy of the most positive recommendations.
